About

What this site is

cEDH.online is a reference site for competitive Elder Dragon Highlander. It covers where you can play it online, how to set yourself up to play it well, and what the communities you might join are like to play in.

Most of what you’d find useful is scattered across Discord servers, pinned messages and half-remembered recommendations. So we write it down in one place, put a date on it and keep checking it.

Who writes it

cEDH.online is written by Niall Sheffield.

How the reviews work

Every community review scores the same eight things out of ten: community quality, activity, matchmaking, rules and moderation, server features, events, accessibility and time zone coverage. The overall score you see is the mean of the ones we could see for ourselves, so a review can score fewer than eight.

  • We score what we saw. A community’s size and reputation aren’t evidence of how it plays, so anything we couldn’t observe is left unscored, and the review tells you so.
  • Every review carries the date it was checked. A confidently wrong review is worse than no review at all.
  • Criticism is specific, evidenced and dated. “No games ran on the three evenings we checked in September” is a finding, however “Dead server” isn’t, and the people running these communities are volunteers.

If we have any relationship with a community we review, the review will tell you.

How the directory and calendar work

The directory describes communities, however it doesn’t rate them. Every entry is checked before it goes on, shows the date we last checked it, and comes down when its link dies.

Every tournament comes from the organiser’s own listing and links straight back to it, so you register with them rather than with us. Times are in the venue’s local time, with UTC beside them. If an organiser gives a time but no time zone, we’ve worked the UTC time out from where the venue is, and the card says so.

What we link to

When we point you at someone else’s article or video, the link text is their headline and the summary is ours, in our own words. We don’t reproduce their writing or re-host their images.

What this site doesn’t do

It sells nothing, carries no advertising or sponsorship, and has no accounts or comments. It does use Google Analytics, however in a mode that sets no cookies if you’re visiting from the UK or Europe, and the privacy notice explains what that means. It doesn’t carry deck-of-the-week content. Its tournament results cover events of 32 or more players on TopDeck.gg, deck by deck, and link to TopDeck for the full standings.
