Server Name
r/cEDH Discord – https://discord.com/invite/cedh
Overview
Perhaps the largest (over 4000 members) cEDH Discord available, this comes with definite advantages and disadvantages. r/cedh suffers from what is a very loose metagame spread for cEDH. This can mean you’re often playing in pods where people are looking to play a tournament focused metagame, but the spread of decks will prevent that sort of experience.
There has been a lot of drama in the past with the moderation and administration of the forum, with many users left with a sore taste around the future and stability of the community.
Community Quality
The Discord is often quite friendly to beginners to the format, however given the breadth of people involved this can be inconsistent. The aforementioned breadth means that the skill level will also be quite diverse, and you should expect to have to explain some interactions or timings to people in your pods.
This community hasn’t fully embraced the tournament cEDH outcome, and describing the impact that has on how the game is played will sometimes not be met with the friendliest attitude.
Score (1–10): 8
Activity Level
Being the largest cEDH server also has its benefits, games fire often almost 24/7!
Score (1–10): 10
Matchmaking & LFG System
Use of the SpellBot for Spelltable makes this an easy experience to sign up for, with Cockatrice supported as well. Having separate queues for a more tournament cEDH might make this Discord better for tournament practice.
Score (1–10): 9
Rules & Moderation
There are clear rules for the server, but enforcement/moderation can sometimes be left lacking. The recent turmoil around the server had in some part reference to behaviour on the Discord, and unsavoury things left posted.
Score (1–10): 7
Server Features & Tools
There are some neat server features, like the puzzles and decklist discussions, however there aren’t any interesting features for setting up games or shifting pods around.
Score (1–10): 7
Events & Tournaments
Tournaments are irregular, with no leagues or other organised play.
Score (1–10): 5
Accessibility
Onboarding into the server is easy, although perhaps a little overwhelming for new users and people new to cEDH. A more focused onboarding could be provided, but that would require a more hands on approach to welcoming people.
